As an American citizen , I am disgusted and embarassed by the Wall Street argument that you must pay high salaries and bonuses to secure competent workers. Ah, one of my pet peeves. When I go to the grocery store and pay for my goods I expect and “thank you” AND a “you’re welcome” to my “thanks.”

Think about it this way. If you’re the cashier and I just paid for my groceries, the bottom line is that I just paid part of “your” salary. You SHOULD say “thanks” for that.

And when I say “thank you” you should NOT reply “no problem.” It had better NOT be a problem….I just paid part of your salary.

You want to be casual and aloof? Do it with your friends and family. Shopping at your store is a business relationship, thank you very much. Let’s keep it that way.
